Builders Did You Know There Is A Cheaper Way To Remodelling A Kitchen?

Submitted by: John Whitmarsh

When home owners set about refurbishing their beloved home one of the key areas they think about first is their kitchen. They want the latest in vogue styling and in the latest fashionable colours.

This is, of course, very easy to think about and plan until they receive the quotes in for stripping out their old kitchen, hiring a skip for the rubbish, employing plasterers and electricians to facilitate the new design.

Then, you as a builder, have the duty to carry out this work whilst the homeowners kids are running after the dog, tripping over your tools, explaining to the homeowners why some of the parts haven t arrived and have them complaining to you about not being able to use the kitchen for 3 weeks.

Does this sound familiar?

We all understand that this 3 week job can be profitable but nonetheless time consuming. So is there another way forward to keep your clients happy and your bank account healthy.

If you could fit in 3 jobs in 3 weeks for the same money as 1 job every 3 weeks, think how much more extra jobs you could carry out for the homeowners who ask if you could do this little job for me ? Ca Ching. Even more money in the bank.

Now, consider this as an option. If you could recommend that the homeowners keep their existing kitchen and have the doors and drawer fronts resprayed in a colour of their choice, this could be carried out in under a week and they still have a working kitchen to use.

By taking away the doors and drawers, these could be spray painted in a workshop away from the kids and then returned beautifully painted in a satin finish which has a guarantee against fading and scratching for 10 years.

If need be, you could replace the counter top at a small cost, but this work is quickly executed, cheaper and cleaner than pulling out a reasonable kitchen.

To add to the overall effect of a new kitchen, you could also recommend that the end boards and kick boards are colour coordinated. Include the appliances and radiator in a complementary colour and there you have it. A nice new kitchen within a week and at a fraction of the cost.

The colour ranges are enormous. For instance they can supply you a colour swatch, a pantone colour, a RAL colour or a sample pot from the DIY store.

If you wanted to go a step further with your home remodelling recommendations, you could also offer to have their UPVC, wooden or metal windows, doors, guttering and down pipes resprayed. Don t forget the conservatory and garage doors.

Again this is a good opportunity to help the homeowners update their home at a lesser cost of pulling out perfectly good windows and doors.

The paint colours are the same as for the kitchens. Although white is a very popular colour, you could suggest other alternatives such as off white, grey or cream depending on the age and style of the property.

This work can be carried out on site by a professional spray painting company. However, if the home owners are looking to replace these items, you could recommend they are colour coded before installation commences.
